(Spain) Spanish tourists will spend 5% less this summer than before COVID

  • Spending intentions 17% higher than last year’s figures

Spaniards’ spending intentions for next summer are still 5% below the levels of the same period in 2019, before the pandemic broke out, although they are 17% higher than the figures for 2021, according to the Cetelem Observatory.

Thus, the latest report published this Thursday by the BNP Paribas research unit points out that Spanish travellers will spend an average of 1,184 euros this summer, compared to 1,241 euros in the summer of 2019, and 1,105 a year ago.

In this regard, 34% state that their spending this summer will exceed that of a year ago, while 44% plan to make the same outlay, and 23% less.

National and international destinations

As for the destination of the trip, 56% of tourists will travel within Spain, both to hotels and flats and to the homes of family or friends, compared to 21% who plan to travel outside Spain for their summer holidays.

The two most popular activities for Spanish tourists next summer will be going out to restaurants (64% of those surveyed) and shopping (44% of those surveyed).

The list is completed by activities such as going to the cinema (29%), sports (26%), going to theme parks (21%) or going to concerts (18%).
