Meeting tourism in Barcelona generated €1.9 billion in 2018

Christoph Tessmar, director of the Barcelona Convention Bureau (BCB) stressed that the economic impact of meeting tourism was 1,900 million euros, which added to an increase of 7.4% in overnight stays and the average stay of congressmen arriving in Barcelona was 4.95 days,

The extrahotel cost registered an average of 189 euros per day in the case of congresses and 99 euros for attendees to other events.

For its part, the Barcelona Convention Bureau programme generated 548 million euros, 30% of the total economic impact of meeting tourism throughout 2018.

Barcelona is one of the main destinations in the world for congresses and conventions. In fact, it was the city that hosted more international congresses in 2017, according to the latest edition of the ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
