The data correspond to the first three months of 2019.
In the last quarter of 2018 it had already fallen 83.5%.
According to the Studies Department of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Chile (CNC) in the first three months of 2019, the fall in purchases with foreign cards (debit and credit) was 23.1% and is explained by the 51% drop in Argentine tourists in Chile last summer (January and February). And this was reflected in the fact that during the first quarter the spending by card (credit and debit) of Argentines in Chile fell by 71.4%.
The share of Argentines in total foreign spending reached 14.5% in the first quarter of this year, well below the 40% reached in the same period in 2018.
Excluding Argentines, card spending by foreigners grew 8.1%.
